Barbara Hamson, 83, died on January 8, 2022 of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. A friend to all she met, she is survived by her husband Darryl; her brother Thomas Penn French Jr. and his wife Judi (VA); two children, Lynanne Teague Fowle (and husband Mark) and Warren (Chris) Teague (NH); grandchildren Joe & Casey Hebert (TX), Serena & Charlie Hedgepeth (TX), Cassie & Cole Long, Samuel Fowle, Katelyn Teague (NH), Daniel Fowle, Madison Teague (NH), and Kennedy Fowle; and great-grandchildren Jaxson Long, Gracie Long, and Tyrell Hedgepeth. Barbara graduated from Boston’s Mass General Hospital nursing school in 1958 and served as a hospital RN focusing on patient intensive care for 35 years in California, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Upon retirement from York Hospital in 1998, she and Darryl moved to Williamsburg, VA where she became involved with the United Methodist Church and served as a key facilitator for the church’s RESPITE program for Alzheimer’s clients. She also managed charitable church projects at both the local and international levels. In 2018, she moved to North Carolina to be closer to her daughter. Throughout her life, she sang with church choirs and was most recently a member of the Fuquay-Varina Chorale. Music was part of her soul and she loved singing the Messiah every year in Virginia. She always had beautiful gardens, and she doted on her beloved cats, Cam & Isis. She worked hard to catalogue family history and enjoyed scrapbooking and card-making. She was the family seamstress, and loved nothing more than a good knitting or craft project. She had a heart for service and spent most of her life giving to others. Her family was her whole life, and they loved her right back! A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3pm on January 26th, which would have been her 84th birthday, at the First United Methodist Church in Fuquay-Varina for friends and family.
