Barbara's obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Mimi, and mother-in-law, Barbara Greenlee, who left us peacefully on March 3, 2025 at the age of 82.

Born on November 30, 1942 in Massillon, OH, Barbara was a woman of grace, strength, and unwavering love. As a mother and grandmother, she dedicated her life to her family, always putting the needs of others before her own. Her kind heart, infectious smile, and nurturing spirit touched the lives of all who knew her.

Throughout her life, Barbara exhibited resilience in the face of challenges, always finding joy in the simple things.  Her father Matt Vern Wilson, Jr., died when Barbara was only 2 years old during the Battle of Iwo Jima.  Barbara felt his loss deeply her entire life.

Barbara lived with her husband Norm  in Suffolk, VA for forty-three years where she worked as a substitute teacher in addition to raising her two children, Matt and Jennifer.   After Matt moved to NC, she and Norm decided to relocate to Charlotte to be closer to their grandchildren.   She had a deep love for reading, gardening, listening to music, and traveling. Her home was always a welcoming place filled with warmth, laughter, and love, especially for her grandchildren, Danny and Will.

Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Matt Vern Wilson, Jr. and Muriel Wilson Martin.    She is survived by her devoted husband of 53 years, Norman Greenlee, her children Jennifer and Matt,  daugher-in law Maggie, her grandchildren Danny and Wilson, and her siblings, Diane Martin, Myrna Martin, and Phillip Martin. Her love, guidance, and presence will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Barbara elected not to have a service.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America or the American Cancer Society in her honor.

May she rest in peace, knowing that her love and legacy will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved her most.
