Barbara Sheila Gaines passed away peacefully on November 1, 2019 at Jamaica Hospital in Queens, New York after a three-year struggle with cancer. She received excellent treatment and care from Elmhurst Hospital, Mt. Sinai Hospital, and Hospice of New York at Jamaica Hospital. The family extends sincere appreciation to the entire staff of doctors, nurses, aides and administrative staff.
Barbara loved Rego Park. Upon retirement from a marketing position at American Express, she became a dedicated volunteer for the We Serve organization, Queens Public Library, Hospice of New York and Elmhurst Hospital Nurses Administration department, where she continued to work throughout her treatment.
Barbara is survived by her brother Roger Katz and his wife Faith; best friends Frances White, Harriet White, Irene McCants, Elynor Walcott, Liz Lanier, Jocelyn Ramirez and Sheila Washington; niece and nephew Vanessa and Joseph Ceasar; cousins Deanna Roberts and her husband Victor Agbodoe, Tonya Roberts, Eloise Flemming, Karen Ellis, Sean, Monique, Madison and Spencer Berry; and a host of wonderful colleagues and friends.

Barbara Gaines is preceded in death by her sister Joyce Brown and her parents Gladys and Robert Gaines. Her ashes will be scattered over the Caribbean Sea in Saint Croix, US Virgin Islands. The family is grateful for the love, condolences, and prayers received from everyone.
