Barbara's obituary
Barbara Louise Fabeck, age 85, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2026 in Sunbury, Ohio.
She was born on August 19, 1940 in Bay City, Michigan to her late parents Floyd and Helen Pratt. She grew up in the Banks area of Bay City along side her older sister, the late Frankie Vasicek.
Barbara is survived by her two sons: Richard Schuen and wife Dr. Wendy of Sunbury, OH; and Gary Schuen of Canal Winchester, OH. She is also survived by her six grandchildren: Jonathan Schuen and wife Katharine of Upper Arlington, OH; Dr. Katherine Palacios and Andres of Cartersville, GA; Benjamin Schuen of Columbus, OH; Dr. Meredith Schuen of Anchorage, AK; Dr. Elizabeth Schuen of Dayton, OH; and Paige Schuen of Ooltewah, TN. She is also survived by her five great-grandchildren: Amelia and Archer Schuen; and Micah, Isaiah and Elijah Palacios.
She was preceded in death by her son, Dale Scheuenstuhl; her niece Becky White; and her grandson, infant Jonathan Schuen.
Barbara graduated from Bay City Handy High School in 1958. She was first married to her late husband Marvin Schuen whom she shared 17 years of marriage. Together they raised three sons. Given her outgoing personality, her three boys were always affectionately called, “Barb’s Boys.” She was a devoted mother who was always there to support her sons in whatever endeavors they undertook. She was a let’s go do it and get ‘r done kind of gal.
Barbara dedicated many years of her professional life working for Dr. Golden in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan where she was a skilled surgical technician and office manager. She took pride in her work and the relationships she built throughout her career.
She later married her late husband William Fabeck of Detroit, Michigan. In 1990, they moved to Florida, where Barbara enjoyed living in the Herons Glen golf course community, St. James City on Pine Island and eventually The Villages. They built a life filled with travel, friendships and retirement in Florida.
In her final years, Barb moved to the Columbus area to be close to her sons. She lived on her son Gary’s farm where she enjoyed viewing wildlife, birdwatching and time with her pets.
Barbara had a passion for life’s simple joys. She loved spending time with family on Drummond Island, Michigan and anywhere in Florida. She enjoyed motorcycle riding, boating, traveling in the RV, entertaining friends and playing golf. She was also a devoted dog lover, especially fond of her beloved companion, Sally.
Barbara lived a full and vibrant life marked by deep love for her family, her work, and the many places she called home. She will be remembered for her warmth and her adventurous spirit. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched.
There will be a private family burial in July 2026 at the Drummond Island Cemetery on Drummond Island, Michigan.
