Barbara's obituary
Barbara Campbell-Akram went home to Jesus on August 25, 2021 at the age of 82. Barbara was born to Robert and Louise Brooks on August 12, 1939 in Newark, New Jersey. Barbara attended Miller Street Elementary School and made the decision to attend a Girls Vocational High School in order to pursue her passion for dress making. As a child, Barbara ran track, loved to attend concerts and enjoyed parties and dancing. She loved to cook for all of the kids in the neighborhood which came to be the thing she loved to do the most.
While in New Jersey, she met John Milton and affectionately named her only child after herself, although most people know her as Pookie. Barbara moved to California where she owned a restaurant and a child care facility, taking care of children of all ages. In 1998, she decided to move back to Newark in order to reconnect with extended family members and friends.
Barbara met Ibrahim Akram in 2012 while visiting family in Atlantic City and quickly knew that they would be in a lasting relationship. They were married that same year and moved to Charlotte, North Carolina where they lived until 2019. In addition to being a loving mother to Pookie, Barbara loved to cook and celebrate any and all special occasions.
Throughout Barbara’s entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her. Barbara joins her mother Louise and father Robert in Heaven. She is survived by her husband Ibrahim Akram, daughter Barbara Brooks, three grandchildren Khara Pride (m. Darren), Julian Lambert II (m. Whitney), Porshe Parker, siblings Mary Tarver (m.
