Barbara Schuler Benjamin went home to Jesus on April 8 2022 at age 85
Barbara was born to Charles and Violet Schuler on August 14,1936 in Jersey City, New Jersey. She spent her childhood in Tenafly, New Jersey. Barbara met her husband, Bob Benjamin in 1951 at The New Jersey shore. After Bob spent 2 years in the Navy, They married September 10, 1954 and went on to have three children, Guy, Scott and Kerri. Bob's position with I.B.M moved them first to Rochester, Minn. Then to Shreveport, La, Los Angeles, Ca, Danville, Ca, finally Austin Tx. While moving to different cities in addition to raising 3 children, Barbara loved working in community and college theater. from actress to stage manager. While in San Francisco, with the children grown up, she re-entered the workforce. Starting as a secretary, then moving to marketing coordinator, customer service manager in real estate and administrative assistant to the Chairman of a global investment firm. While in Austin she found her purpose in life by supporting and caring for neglected and abused children. She organized and ran, with help from Laura Bush and others, a department 56 convention which raised over $18,000 for the Austin Childrens Center. We retired and moved to Hot Springs Village in 2000. She then volunteered as a court appointed special advocate. Which she continued for 15 years. She loved giving Parties. Christmas was always special in our home. She loved doing little things for people. When shopping she would always bring donuts to the guards at our gates. She made cookies for the workers at Oaklawn. She loved watching and betting on the horses. She is survived by 2 Brothers. Richard Schuler and Charles Schuler, 3 children Guy Benjamin, Scott Benjamin and Kerri Bates. 4 grandchildren, Taylor Brightwell , Madison Johnson, Brooke Armon and Ella Benjamin. Her husband of 67 years Robert Benjamin.
