Meeting and visiting your mom was always a special trip for me. This might be a weird story but it's the one that always sticks in my mind and how I remember her with fondness.

One of the times I came home to Philly with you, we went to visit Ava. But it was a tricky visit because, for much of it, she was convinced that I was a Russian spy or a secret KGB agent. We laughed about it, I remember, even though it was also an awkward situation.

These days, I simply think of it as a moment of genius she had in predicting the success of the TV show The Americans. I mean, right?

Dear Daniel: Sincere condolences to you on the passing of your mother, and my cousin, Ava. Over our individual lifetimes, she and I didn't get together accept briefly. In fact, the only two adult times I saw her was in the late 1970s when she visited my apartment, and later at the shiva for your grandfatherJoseph Brahen. Both were times before you were born.
