Audrey's obituary
*January 20, 1936 – October 9, 2025*
Audrey Jean Atkinson, a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and loyal friend, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2025, at the age of 89. Known for her kindness, deep compassion, and quiet strength, Audrey lived a life rooted in faith, service, and love.
Born and raised in Methuen, Massachusetts, Audrey met her husband, William (Bill) Atkinson Jr., during their high school years. They married on June 27, 1958, and shared over six decades of marriage until Bill’s passing in December 2022.
Audrey pursued her calling in nursing as a graduate of the inaugural class of the University of Massachusetts nursing program. She later earned a Master’s degree in Pastoral Counseling. She worked in hospitals in Boston and Chester, Bryn Mawr Rehab, as a school nurse and Brian's House. Throughout her life, she quietly and tirelessly helped others—nursing them through illness, counseling during hard times, offering meals, and lending a listening ear.
Audrey was the beloved mother of four children: Lauri Jones (Robert), Cheryl Meservey (George III), Peter Atkinson (Jennifer), and Nancy Bordick (Andy). Audrey instilled in them a sense of perseverance, humility, and a deep understanding of what it means to love and serve others
Her joy expanded with her 19 grandchildren: Eric Jones (Sammi), Brian Jones (Keyla-Dalee), Amy Jones, Anna Jones, Danny Meservey (Margarita), Jamien Meservey Higgins (Austin), Guo-Yuan Meservey (Thom Malone), Josh Meservey (Cassidy), Caleb Meservey, Peter Atkinson (Marissa), Alyssa Golden (Eddie), Nicole Colegrove (Braden), Nic Madej, Alexandra Madej, Zoe Cika, Kendra Cika, Calvin Bordick, and Jack Bordick. She was further blessed with ten great-grandchildren: Caroline, Daphne, Rocky, Moses, Elio, Jane, Lachlan, Ayla, Asher, and Maverick—each of whom brought her immense pride and delight. She was a source of encouragement, joy, and endless love. She never missed a moment to make a craft, read a book, bake cookies or create memories full of laughter and warmth.
Audrey extended her love beyond her family. Fondly known as “Mom A”, she welcomed friends, neighbors, and her Girl Scouts troop into her heart with warmth and generosity. Her home was a refuge of peace, laughter, and hospitality.
Audrey was a talented seamstress, crafter and baker. Audrey was especially known for her apple pies and joyful spirit. She loved music—especially singing in the choir and playing the piano—and found great pleasure in travel and the theater. Audrey cherished her community of friends in Marriage Encounter and in "Edgewater Landings". She and Bill traveled globally with their dear friends Jim and Kathleen Hailing and sailed the Caribbean with Cliff and Doris Smith.
Audrey was a woman of deep and abiding faith and a leader in the community. She volunteered in many different organizations: Steven's Ministry, Girl Scouts, Bible Studies, Faith Alive, hospice care and as a deaconess at her church. Where there was a need, she would lend a hand. Her life was characterized by service and generosity.
Audrey is preceded in death by her husband and will be laid to rest beside him, reuniting the love that shaped so many lives.
