Artiss's obituary

Artiss McCoy Dandridge Sr. departed this life on July 9th in Calvert County, Maryland. He was 76 years old.  Known to his friends as "Artie," he will be remembered for his great sense of humor and his enduring kindness to others. He had friends wherever he went and he loved people. He is known for always having a kind word for and giving whatever he had to help others. He was born on July 7th, 1949 in Goochland, Virginia to Lloyd and Hazel Dandridge. He graduated from Central High School and went on to attend Virginia State University. Artiss served for more than 27 years in operations at the United States Postal Service. He spent years as an avid runner.

After retiring, Artiss spent much precious time with his family. Upon the births of his granddaughters, he dedicated himself to caring for them while his son and daughter-in-law pursued their careers. His giving nature will always be remembered. As his health worsened, he lived with his son and family. He battled chronic kidney disease for over ten years before receiving a transplant in 2022 and made a full recovery. He spent his final days surrounded by his beloved granddaughters and family.

He will be missed by his many friends and family. Artiss is survived by his son Artiss Jr., daughter-in-law Ann, two grandchildren Jasmine and Simone, and his brothers Lloyd “Bully” Dandridge Jr. and Issac “Shorty” Dandridge.

His celebration of life service will be held at Common House in Richmond, Virginia on Saturday, July 26th. All are welcome to celebrate his life.
