Arthur's obituary
In Memoriam: Arthur Terence O'Brien (1953 – 2025)
On October 24, 2025, Arthur Terence O'Brien, known affectionately by many names including "Terry," "T.O.," "Doc," and "Boss," departed from our midst, leaving behind a legacy as diverse and vibrant as the man himself.
Terry entered the world on April 26, 1953, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kansas City, MO, born to Arthur and Iona O’Brien. His early years were spent in Kansas City, KS, but a pivotal moment came when he celebrated his 13th birthday in Honolulu en route to Guam due to his father's transfer for the FAA. Fond memories of Guam lingered with him throughout his life.
In 1972, Terry commenced his military service, enlisting in the United States Navy, where he was active duty as a Hospital Corpsman until 1975, continuing with the United States Marine Corps until 1979. His deployments included the USS Independence, where he served in the North Atlantic, Oahu, Pacific Northwest and Okinawa, Japan. He completed Hospital Corps School, Career Information and Counseling School, Certified CHAMPUS Counselor, Instructor School and Field Medical Service Technician School.
A man of many talents and passions, Terry's post-military journey was marked by a commitment to medicine, real estate, and service to others. From managing Menorah’s Radiology Department to later in hospice care, long term acute care and plasma industry management, Terry's career spanned over five decades, earning him many accolades and awards.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Terry was a licensed, ordained minister and found joy in officiating many weddings and memorial services. He was a culinary maestro, delighting friends, family, and even postal delivery folks with his cooking prowess. An avid storyteller and entertainer, he graced countless stages with his unique blend of magic, music, and comedy.
Terry loved being a father and grandfather. Terry's love for life extended to his favorite indulgences: "Arthur" movie marathons, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and meticulously crafted hot roast beef sandwiches. He savored every moment, cherishing travel adventures with Jennifer.
In 2015, Terry confronted his toughest adversary yet: cancer. With characteristic determination, stubbornness and humor, he faced this challenge head-on, surpassing medical expectations. He acknowledges Jennifer for literally saving his life during several crises.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Iona, his brothers Kenneth and Karl, and sister Katherine. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jennifer; his daughters Nina and husband Bart, Kristin and husband Kyle, and Sarah and fiancée Bryce; a vast network of family and friends who will miss his presence dearly.
In his final moments, Terry left us with a smile and a joke, a fitting farewell to a man who brightened countless lives with his laughter and love. Though he may have departed from this world, his spirit and legacy will forever endure in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Rest in peace, Terry. Your laughter echoes in our memories, and your spirit lives on in our hearts. Two Irishmen walked past a bar… hey, it could happen.
