Arthur's obituary
Arthur Edward Liebman
December 22, 1932 – August 5, 2025
Arthur Edward Liebman of Yucaipa, California, passed peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus on August 5, 2025, at the age of 92.
Affectionately known as “Dad,” “Pops,” and “Uncle Artie,” he was born on December 22, 1932, and raised in Sun Valley, California. Art proudly served in the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft mechanic from 1951–1955.
His career began as a probation officer for Los Angeles County in the early 1960s. He went on to devote nearly 30 years as a group home director for Ettie Lee Homes for Boys and Guadalupe Group Homes, providing guidance and care to countless young people.
In 1965, God smiled on Art when his sister introduced him to her friend, Martha Sloan. After a comically disastrous first date, they gave it another chance—fell in love—and married on June 26, 1966. They settled in Redlands, where they briefly served as foster and home parents, before beginning their own family in 1969 with the birth of their daughter, followed by their son four years later. Much to Martha’s delight, they helped raise their grandson together until Martha’s passing in 2013.
From 1994–2025, Art proudly served as a CVP officer for the Redlands Police Department. He was also a beloved and faithful member of his home group (formerly known as Koinonia) at Trinity Church, where his church family became a true extension of his own.
If you were looking for Art, you would likely find him tending to his immaculate yard, where he took great pride in his perfectly symmetrical trees and bushes. He was an avid license plate collector—often planning family vacations around license plate meets—and loved displaying his finds alongside his model trains. A master of jigsaw puzzles, he was rarely without one in progress.
Art was also a devoted sports fan, cheering passionately for the Dodgers, Lakers, Rams, and USC Trojans. There was almost always a game on at his house.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Anna; his brothers, Edward Jr. and Jimmy; his beloved sister, Alice; and his beautiful wife of 47 years, Martha.
He is survived by his daughter, Lori (Liebman) Bruch of San Diego; his son, Brent Liebman of Yucaipa; his grandson Jacob and wife Morgan Bruch; and his great-grandchildren, Ramona and Heath Bruch of Yucaipa. He is also survived by nieces Louise (Joy) Smaniego and Loretta (Joy) Stasa; nephews Phil Joy and Frank Liebman; grand-nieces Stephanie Voss, Lauren Joy, Justine Bartholomew, Jen Joy, and Amanda Samaniego; and grand-nephew Adam Samaniego. He leaves behind five great-grand-nieces and nephews, with another on the way, as well as many longtime friends, neighbors, and his loyal dog, Paco.
Art was a lifelong animal lover, and we can easily imagine him joyfully greeted in heaven by the many beloved pets who went before him.
A celebration of Art’s life will be held on Saturday, September 6, at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Evangelical Free Church, 1551 Reservoir Road, Redlands, CA. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Redlands Animal Shelter—or even adopting a pet in Art’s honor. He would love that.
