Arthur's obituary
Arthur "Otts" John Hart, age 75, of Edgewood, Maryland, was welcomed into his Heavenly home on November 23, 2024, after a life filled with love, kindness, and generosity. His passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew him, but his legacy of compassion, service, and faith will continue to inspire and uplift those he touched.
Born on October 12, 1949, in Baltimore, Maryland, Otts was the son of Edward Hart and Elizabeth (Thiess) Hart. He graduated from Overlea High School and went on to build a life that exemplified hard work, dedication, and an unwavering love for his family. In 1969, he married Martha Jean (Kelley) Hart, and together, they welcomed three children: Tina (Hart) Benoska (Stephen), Steven Hart (Wendy), and Jonathan Hart (Sarah). His greatest joy in life was being a grandfather and great-grandfather to his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren: John Frank, Amber (Warren), Mandi, Lexi (Man-Man), Johnny, Benny, Ellie, Victoria, Eric, Brayden, Cameron, Gabriel, and Natalia. He adored each of them and made sure to shower them with love, guidance, and support.
Otts was predeceased by his wife, Martha; his brother, Edward; his sisters, Janet and Nancy, and his parents. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, his sister Emma Jean Hofmeister (John), his brother Dale (Barb), and a large extended family, including nieces, nephews, cousins, and many lifelong friends.
A millwright by trade, Otts spent decades building and working on numerous projects throughout Maryland. He ran his business with the highest integrity, mentoring countless individuals along the way. His leadership was marked by humility, patience, and a strong sense of responsibility. Otts was known for his ability to teach anyone anything, thanks to his remarkable way with words and his gift for leading by example. He was a true role model for many, not only in his work but in the way he treated everyone around him—with respect, warmth, and generosity.
Otts was a coach, a mentor, and a father figure to hundreds, if not thousands, of people. He was always the first call when people needed support, from offering advice, lending a helping hand, or simply being there for someone in need. His door was always open, and he never hesitated to give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it.
He was a familiar sight in his neighborhood, often seen driving around in his truck with his beloved dogs happily barking by his side. He was known for his infectious smile, his hearty laugh, and the warmth he radiated wherever he went.
Otts will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him. His legacy of love, faith, and service will live on in the lives of those who carry forward the lessons he taught them. His generous spirit and selfless heart will forever be cherished by all who knew him.
A man of deep faith, Otts was saved by the grace of God nearly 50 years ago, and his walk with the Lord remained the cornerstone of his life. He loved to listen to worship music, read his Bible, and spend time in prayer. His faith gave him strength and peace, and he shared that peace with everyone he encountered. Otts’ belief in God’s love and grace was evident in everything he did, and he is now at peace in the presence of the Lord for eternity.
