Mom, Paula and I are so sad to hear of Genes passing. We are so glad we have gotten to reconnect the past few years. Your family was so very important to my dad. Love you all so much.

My condolences to Gene's family. Gene and I were classmates at DeSoto Schools. J. C. Culwell, our math teacher seated us last name alphabetically. I was Betty Gillam, therefore Ray Greenlee and Gene Groat were my math seat mates. Between the two of them I managed to pass Math and Algebra. Thank you BOYS.
So sorry to hear of Genes passing. He and his family made a difference.
How many of us can say that??

Tryna,
I’m so sorry to hear about Genes passing. Sorry I couldn’t make it to the services. He was a very special person and mentor in my life. I owe him a lot when it comes to my faith and also to my profession in the surveying field. My heart goes out to you and all the family. Love you and God Bless!!!

Judson and I didn’t get to know Gene very long but the few months we recently shared with him will always be special to us. He was a very special man and quickly became a forever friend as well as his precious wife, Tryna. We were blessed to touch hearts with him and know we will see him again one day! Prayers and sympathy to Tryna and the entire family. He will be missed.

Pork chop and rice casserole, sheet pan pizza, playing Rook and Coup Fourret, listening to gospel records, making caramel apples in the Fall, listening in amazement as Taryn played the piano, SO many memories of my youth wrapped up in this family. When ‘He Touched Me’ was first popular, Gene sitting at the kitchen table working on something with a tool that pinched him, him breaking into song 🎶 “It pinched me, ohh it pinched me” 🎶. All of these and more come flooding back as I absorb the news that the ‘E’ in the TEG’s is physically gone from us. I understand the pain, but also the joy of knowing your dad entered his heavenly home singing, and was greeted by his Savior and many friends and loved ones who preceded him. What a joyous reunion. I found myself wondering about any conversation he might have been having with The Father as he lay unconscious. Regardless, his testimony and his legacy are epic, and I will miss knowing he is physically here on this earth. My life is better for having had Gene Groat and his family in my life. God bless you as you navigate the difficult days ahead. I love you all❣️
