Arthur's obituary
Arthur Emory Gregory, Jr., almost 95, of Annapolis, MD, passed away on June 23, 2022 after a stroke. Art was born on August 6, 1927 to Arthur E Gregory and Ella Harris (Sue) Moister Gregory in Avon Park,Florida. After graduating from Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, Georgia, he joined the Navy, serving in the Pacific during the end of WWII. He went on to study at Georgia Tech, and at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. After graduation in 1951, he worked for 2 years in Perkins and Crystal Falls, Michigan. In 1952 he moved to Biloxi, Mississippi, working for the US Civil Service teaching Electronics at Keesler AFB. When inquiring about a catboat for sale, he met the love of his life, Patricia Adelaide Sharp. ( The catboat sale was not transacted, but, there followed a courtship that included many sailing outings). They were married in 1953. In 1954 Art joined Reeves Instrument Corp in NYC; His work as an engineer contracted to the USAF resulted in transfers and homes in El Paso, TX, Amarillo, TX, Denver, CO, and Bountiful, UT. Son Greg was born in El Paso, and John was born in Amarillo. In 1959, Art joined General Electric and the family moved to Clearwater, Florida. Nancy was born in 1961. Art and Pat continued with their love of sailing and boating in Clearwater, as well as many other activities including tennis, bridge, and various travels ( particularly to ClubMed locations).
Their travels included Haiti, UK, Switzerland, Italy, Bermuda, Virgin Islands, Antigua, Cancun, Ixtapa, Turkey and Greece. Art retired in 1990; Following additional trips to the Caribbean and western Canada, Dads beloved Pat passed away.
Art participated in many solo and sailing-group outings and travels for the next 29 years. These included sailing from Florida to New Jersey and back, and trips from Florida to the Bahamas. At the age of 87 he solo sailed his 14ft Peep Hen a distance of approximately 110 miles from Annapolis, MD to Mathews, VA.
In 2016 Art moved to Annapolis to spend more time with John and Chrissy, Johnny and Perry.
Art was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, sailor, and friend. The Ancient Mariner will be missed by all.
