Arthur's obituary
Art passed away on Sunday, August 9th after a long battle from complications resulting from surgery in October of 2019. He had resided in Newark, Delaware since 1976. He is survived by his sister, Marilyn, who resides in McSherrystown, Pennsylvania and brother, Donald, residing in Maple Shade, New Jersey. Art married Nancy Harrington of Newark, Delaware, in June 1976, but within a decade Nancy had succumbed to an a aggressive strain of Multiple Sclerosis.
Art grew up in Delran, New Jersey and Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, where he graduated high school in 1969. Upon graduating from Penn State University in 1973 with a degree in Education (Health and Physical Education), he taught in both Lock Haven, Pennsylvania and Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, before relocating to Newark, where he taught in northern Delaware, for the next forty years before retiring in January of 2019.
Art's passion was sports. After playing high school football and baseball, he went on to play both freshman soccer and baseball at Penn State. Then, from his sophomore through senior years, he was a member of the Penn State University Lacrosse team. After graduation from Penn State, Art worked as a sports writer for the Lock Haven Express, before moving to Delaware, where, while teaching. he was a member of both the State of Delaware Umpire's Association and Referee's Association. For thirty years he spent every spare moment on baseball diamonds and basketball courts across Delaware.
Because of present safety concerns, a private graveside service will take place at a yet undetermined future date.
