Arlene's obituary

Arlene Kadashaw-Kelber (Yiddish name Anya), 81, of Plano, TX, passed away on February 17, 2026 after a long battle with cancer.

Arlene was born on the 22nd of July, 1944 to William and Elaine Kadashaw in Detroit, MI.  Arlene received her BS from Wayne St. University., an MS from Cal. State, Dominguez Hills, and an MBA from the University of Dallas.  Her varied career began as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, then Medical Sales, Hospice Administrator, and finally, as a Medical Editor. In 1979, at a large Thanksgiving dinner, she met Jeffry Kelber, and they wed in 1981, having one child, Scott Kelber.

Arlene's passions included sailing, traveling, visiting museums, and spending time with family and friends. She became a first mate in a sailing club out of Los Angeles with voyages to Catalina Island and the Caribbean. She traveled the globe, from climbing pyramids in Mexico and Southeast Asia to touring with Jeff to Paris and Brussels,  Beijing,  and many destinations in between. Arlene remained utterly devoted to her dear friends and family. Everywhere she lived – Detroit, Los Angeles, Albuquerque, Dallas – she made lifelong friendships that continue to endure.  Arlene was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and received profound joy in helping her family to flourish. Arlene was also passionate about a great many causes that reflect her enduring love to better our world, including child advocacy, disease research (polio, cancer, cystic fibrosis, Parkinson's), environmental defense, and numerous Jewish causes.   We will remember her in our hearts and miss her greatly.

Arlene was predeceased by her parents, William and Elaine Kadashaw.  She is survived by her husband, Jeffry, sister, Gloria (and her husband Sanford), brother, Barry (and his wife Jackie), her son Scott (and his wife Marija) and grandchildren, Alexander and Julian.

Her funeral service will be held in Detroit, while an additional Celebration of her Life will be held in Dallas, TX with details of both events to be announced at a later time. If desired, please consider donating to the American Cancer Society, the Children’s Advocacy Center, the Environmental Defense Fund, or the Simon Wiesenthal Center.
