Arlene's obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Arlene Guthrie, 82, a beloved mother and friend, who left us on September 2, 2024. Born on March 19, 1942, Arlene lived an impactful life characterized by love, care, laughter, and a touch of healthy stubbornness.

Arlene's high-spirited nature, combined with an infectious laughter, lit up every room she entered. Yet, behind her playful exterior was a caring heart that was always ready to lend a listening ear and a helping hand. Her obstinacy, on the other hand, was a testament to her unwavering determination and resilience.

She was a mother, first and foremost, to her six children, who survive her, R Kelley Laughlin, Sharon Varvarezos, Karen Altergott, Sherri Gabino, Beth Schattke, and Andrew Guthrie. The bond she had with them was remarkable. It was built not just on maternal love, but also on mutual respect, understanding, and admiration. She believed in the value of family and inculcated this belief in her kids, teaching them to appreciate the significance of these bonds. She also instilled these values into her grandchildren, Robert Altergott, Sarah Altergott, Lauren Altergott, Angelo Gabino, Dominic Gabino, Connor Guthrie, Cullen Laughlin, Eris Laughlin, Anthony Mannino, Gareth Schattke, Arlan Schattke, Alex Varvarezos, Nikos Varvarezos, Jacey Varvarezos, Loukas Varvarezos and her great grandchildren, Anthony "AJ" Mannino, Parker Altergott, Leah Schattke, Charlotte Schattke, Ivy Schattke, Ava Schattke, Oliver Schattke, Eli Schattke, and Eleni Varvarezos.

Arlene leaves behind a legacy of laughter and love, a testament to her warm personality. She always had a humorous anecdote or a kind word to share, and her laughter was a familiar and comforting sound to all who knew her. Her love knew no bounds, and it reached every person she met. She cared deeply for her family and friends, and her absence will be profoundly felt.

While we mourn the loss of Arlene, we also choose to celebrate her life. She touched many hearts and brought joy to many lives. She will be remembered not for how she died, but for how she lived - with love, joy, and an unyielding spirit. Her lessons and her love will be carried forward by those who were fortunate enough to know her.
