April's obituary

It is with profound sorrow as we announce the passing of April Carter, a remarkable woman, on March 5, 2024. Born on May 17, 1958, April lived a life rich with love, laughter, and the relentless pursuit of her passions.

April was predeceased by her beloved husband, James Carter, whom she married in 1984, her father, John McLellan, and her mother, Peggy Perdreaux. She leaves behind a loving family who will cherish her memory: her children Melinda Jurss and George Strother, her son-in-law Bryan Jurss, and daughter-in-law Christian Ortiz. Also mourning her loss are her sister, Diane Nelson, and her nieces, Rachael Walker and Jensen Bouton.

April was a doting grandmother to Justin, Kaydence, Noah, James, Travis, and Hunter, and great grandmother to Jupiter each of whom added special joy to her life. As a mother, a grandmother, and an aunt, April's greatest accomplishments were found within the heart of her family. She nurtured strong bonds that extended beyond the traditional family tree, and those relationships are her enduring legacy.

A woman of quick wit and hard-headed determination, April was equally known for her loving spirit and unique sense of humor. She had a taste for spaghetti, steak, crab and sushi, and was known to enjoy a Mountain Dew, Coke, or Bud Light. Her literary tastes spanned from Stephen King to V.C. Andrews and Louis Lamour, and she found solace in the music of Jim Croce, particularly 'If I Could Save Time in a Bottle.'

April was a devoted fan of the Twilight Zone and Perry Mason, and held a special place in her heart for the movie Sweet Home Alabama. She was a fervent supporter of the Florida State University Football team and enjoyed playing checkers and rummy. Hunting, fishing, shopping, and playing with her grandchildren were among her favored pastimes.

April loved the tranquility of Flagler Beach, and turquoise was her color of choice. Yet,despite her varied interests, her core advice remained consistent: “Always give ‘em hell and be yourself no matter what.” This encapsulates the essence of April's spirit—brash at times, yet always authentic and full of love.

The family takes comfort knowing that April's life was well lived, and she will forever be remembered for her invaluable contributions to our lives. Her love, like her memory, will endure in the hearts of all who knew her.

The family would also like to thank the staff of Life Care Center of Citrus County. They not only took the greatest care of April, but they loved her like their own family
