Martha Krebs. I am late in learning that Toni has left us. I hope this gets to her family. I knew Toni as colleague and then as her supervisor as Director of Science in the Clinton Administration. She was an astute advisor to the workings of the DOE bureaucracy. She loved the DOE labs but was demanding that they be relevant to the agency mission. We became friends and I saw her deep love and pride in her family and her demanding care for the people who worked for her. She was a real treasure to the Department and her country.
Toni was a kind sister, patient teacher and advisor, generous friend and roommate, exemplary role model, and wonderful travel companion. She broadened my horizons geographically and culturally by encouraging me to see the world, learn about and participate in our government, try new foods, and so much more. I have many fond memories of the years we lived together in PA and DC and the times we traveled together to the beach, Montreal, Florida, Europe, and across the USA. She opened her heart and home to friends, relatives, and strangers. May her kindness and generosity be remembered and paid forward to others.
Toni J was the best boss I ever had in 31 years of Federal service--she was also a close friend and mentor all at the same time--Just look at here career in male-dominated agencies and you will see how unique she truly was unique!
