Anthony (Antonius) J. Timinskas (Thomesky, Tyminski) died yesterday at his home on 2108 Jackson St., Scranton, after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, whom he adored, the former Julia Helen Bubelis (Bubel).  Anthony, the son of Kazimieras and Anna Bukowski Timinskas was born in the village of Sutkunai, (the parish Lygumai), in the district of Siaulia County, a region in Kauno Arkivyskupija (Kaunas Archdiocese) Lithuania, where he was baptized in Sts. Peter and Paul Church in 1872.  During his early years he worked at the Frankel Leather Processing Factory.   In 1891 he was residing in Naidine, Russia and at the age of 19, he traveled to Bremen, Germany to board the Grosser Kurfurst ship to come to America. He became a naturalized citizen on December 3, 1918.

Mr. Timinskas had been employed as a mineworker by the old Scranton Coal Co. prior to his retirement. (His name is inscribed on the Coal Miner's Remembered monument at Blakely Borough Park, Peckville, Pa.)  Although he was of Polish heritage, he was a founder and supporting member of St. Michael's Lithuanian Roman Catholic Church on Garfield Ave., a past President of the Holy Name Society, and the Lithuanian Roman Catholic Alliance of America. 

He had very good business acumen and bought and sold properties.  At the time of his passing, he owned four homes in Scranton and a cottage at Lake Winola.

He was preceded in  death by his loving wife Julia (1943), and brother Justin (1947), a WW1 Army combat veteran. He is survived by three sons, August, Peter, and Edward; three grandchildren, all of this city; a sister, Teckla Narusaitis Repshas, and brother Stanley.

"Pop", as his family lovingly called him, enjoyed peaceful mornings drinking a cup of coffee and reading the newspaper at the kitchen table. There was nothing better than golumpki and apple pie.  He was very blessed to be taken care of at home by his daughter-in-law Mary L. Timins R.N.   He relished the time spent at his cottage at Lake Winola, Pa.

The funeral was Wednesday from the home with a requiem mass at 9 a.m. on St. Michael's Church. Rt. V. Rev. Msgr. John F. Boll was celebrant. Mrs. Helen Moran was vocalist and organist. She also sang the responses. Arrangements were made by the Joseph Noreika Funeral Home, 1740 N. Main Ave., Scranton. Burial was in Cathedral Cemetery, Section 12 where the committal services were conducted. Pallbearers: Charles Slagis, Andrew Lucas, John Trakimas, Anthony Joseph Barkauskas, Thomas Miller, and Anthony Brocavich.
