Anthony's obituary
Anthony Peter Reed, age 48, died peacefully in Columbia, South Carolina on Saturday, December 23, 2023. Anthony is survived by his daughter Lily Reed, his parents Maura and Robert Reed, his brother and wife, Joshua and Jessica Reed, and his two nephews Owen and Luke Reed.
Anthony grew up with his family in York, Maine. He was a bright, articulate and curious little boy. His favorite question to ask was,”Why?” During his childhood he discovered a passion for drawing, painting and anything involving art; a hobby he continued in his adulthood. He also loved spending time playing baseball, basketball and football with his younger brother Joshua. Whatever Anthony did, he did it with enthusiasm and determination.
He brought that same level of commitment when he moved to Portland, Maine. There he found a community of creative people and made his presence known when he was asked to exhibit his artwork at a local gallery. Although he enjoyed sharing his art work with others, he found another passion to pursue when his close friend introduced him to the sport of boxing. He fell in love with it immediately and joined the Portland Boxing Club. Despite being older than the novice boxer, Anthony, with the help of his trainer, Bobby Russo, went on to earn the titles of: New England Heavyweight Champion and New England Golden Gloves Champion. Anthony also represented the U.S. in an exhibition match in London, England and he eventually joined the U.S. National Boxing Team.
But as significant as these events were, there was one event in Anthony’s life that he deemed most important and that was the day he became a father. Lily was the light of his life. She brought a smile to his face and, being a loving parent, he always put her needs first.
Although Anthony had many accomplishments in his life, he also had an equal amount of challenges. Life was not always easy or kind to Anthony. But despite the difficulties he shouldered, he eventually found a great deal of comfort and hope in his Christian Faith, and he went on to share his story of recovery with teens and young people at local Youth Centers and High Schools.
He lived hard and loved hard and anyone who knew him will miss him. He will forever be remembered for his great sense of humor; his love for family and friends and his deep fondness of pasta and meatballs.
May you rest in peace dear Anthony.
