ANTHONY's obituary

Anthony’s Obituary

Our Beloved Father, Grandfather, Brother and Uncle, ANTHONY MAYOL, made the journey to the next dimension on April 11, 2020. He is survived by his sons, Anthony and Timothy (Prince), His grandkids, Prince Jr., and Kylah, His Sisters Rosie Mc Hugh (Late Bernard), and Yolanda Mc Hugh (Peter), his Brother Bart Mayol (Gloria), and predeceased by his sister Sara Mayol (Joseph Gonsales) and his beloved nieces and nephews: Rose Mary, Cheryl Ann, Lisa, Peter, Nicole, Bart Jr. Mark, Joe Jr, Bobby, Missy and Paul. As well as host of grand nephews and nieces.

Affectionately known as Tony, Uncle Tony or Pop, Anthony was born in New York City on May 1, 1942. The middle of five children born to Bart and Matilde Mayol, Anthony grew up on Columbus avenue and 107th street and attended Ascension School and Haaren High School. After graduating high school Tony went on to become a butcher, first with Angelo’s Meat Market on Arthur avenue in the Little Italy section of the Bronx, and then with a number of large chain supermarkets including Shop Rite and Grand Union. He would often recount the early days of his career with great pride and affinity, and fondly recalled those that gave him his first opportunities.

Along the way Tony met and fell in love with Kathy Larkin, the woman who went on to become his only wife and the mother of his two sons. Anyone who had the pleasure of a conversation with Tony knew pretty quickly that Kathy was the love of his life and his two sons were his pride and joy.

“Uncle Tony” as he was affectionately referred to by all of his nieces and nephews was known as a jokester and a man who almost always could add laughter and light heartedness to the room. His willingness to always share a joke or provide some frank humor and color commentary was actually reassuring and helped keep things in perspective. Tony was known to speak from the heart and always with good intentions, even when his comments were not so filtered.

Tony loved his family and was also a very giving spirit, who was known to frequently give some “creative” gifts to let you know he was thinking about you. At some point all of us have received a “borrowed” teddy bear, a “not so new” hat, a coffee mug, or hell even a hubcap or an envelope full of rice and pennies as a gesture of his thoughtfulness. Last but not least who could forget the hand made postcards he would send, written on the back of a Pall Mall Cigarette carton, just to say “hola”, God Bless, or “Latin from Manhattan”.

Although his passing leaves a deep void in our lives, his jokes, sarcastic wit and giving nature will remain with us forever and leave us a lifetime of awesome memories.

TONY, UNCLE TONY, POP, GRANDPA - WE LOVE YOU !!!!
