He was born Mauricio Lopez Jr. in Perico, Cuba on January 5, 1964 and his parents were Mauricio Lopez who was a young carpenter who married a young woman by the name of Gladys Arencibia a housewife and one of four daughters to Ramona Arencibia just a year earlier. Maury as his parents called him as a little boy growing up to his 2nd birthday before they were brought to the United States to get away fro the communist oppression in Cuba with the Castro dictatorship. The sister of Gladys who claimed them was Adelfa Toirac who also claimed her mother Ramona in 1965. They all moved to Union City, New Jersey where they ajusted to life in a non spanish climate. But Mauricio Lopez Sr. became a succesful carpenter and handyman in New Jersey during the late 1960s. Maury spent his youth as any young hispanic boy among american kids. He got his firstjob in delivering papers as a teenager. His family enjoyed going to the beach every summer having nice picnics with friends and hosting dances at home. Maury graduated from the local high school in late 1970s before they traveled to Miami to restart their lives near family. Gladys gave birth to a boy named Erik Lopez before coming to Miami. Maury went to Miami Dade Community College and studied Business where he got his degree. They returned to New Jersey after an unsuccessful short life in South Florida. Maury returned in late 1980s and met a young woman whom he met in a disco and soon after they married. after a few years of marriage, she cheated on him and they were soon divorced by the early 1990s. Maury worked at Barnet Bank as a teller during his time in Miami. Maury then began to study at a local school to be a certified nurse which he was unable to complete. Gladys became ill during mid 1990s as they came to live in Miami, Florida after buying a house in South Kendall. Gladys lost her kidneys and became a renal patient and dependent on Maury as her diabetes led to very poor eyesight. He took her to doctors and dialysis every week. Mauricio began a new business which he called Gustamar Construction. Years later they converted business to kitchen cabinets and murphy beds only. Maury changed his name to Anthony Mauricio Lopez as he became a US citizen. Maury joined his father in the carpentry and cabinet making business where it was successful during the 90s. They obtained a warehouse in Doral which they used for Gustamar Cabinets and hired some employees to help them out. In the meantime, Maury dated on and off as he searched for a new wife. Years later the family moved to Westchester after they sold the house and purchased a simple corner property near 87th Avenue. Maury and his sibling Erik struggled as brothers since Erik grew up with the wrong crowd getting in trouble with the law. Erik later married and moved out. Maury stayed with his parents. By 2008, Gladys was unable to walk without a walker and struggling with health concerns. Maury met through an online dating service, a Venezuelan woman by the name Gaudy whom he fell in love with and soon after married her. They both lived together in same house. During the summer of 2009, Mauricio was cleaning the warehouse floors from dust which included asbestos and suffered severe breathing problems which Maury rushed him to Baptist Hospital where soon after he was declared deceased. This event was devastating to Maury and led to the end of Gustamar Cabinets. After the funeral and cremation, Maury began working online in his home business as a medical transcription. By 2010, Gladys became bedridden and Maury dedicated fulltime to his mom and her cleaning and peg tube feeding. By christmas eve, she passed away. Maury and his new wife struggled with expenses and Gaudy's family which was still in Venezuela. He paid to have them come to Miami and live with Gaudy. During the years Maury worked as a security guard in Hialeah Hospital to earn money to pay bills. By 2020, he was told he had lung cancer from many year of smoking cigarrettes. This cancer spread years later to other organs. After years of chemo, they noticed his condition has worsen and now he has cancer all over his body and less than a year to live. By the late Summer of 2024, he was rushed to Baptist Hospital where after a few weeks, he passed away on September 17, 2024 leaving his wife and brother behind.
