Anthony's obituary

Anthony Michael Loera, a loving brother, son, grandson, cousin, and nephew, passed away on January 4, 2025 in Omaha, Nebraska due to alcohol-related health issues. He was born August 9, 1984 in Lemoore, CA at 4:24 pm to Patricia Gustava Steffen (“Pat”) and Ygnacio Loera (“Nacho”). He was the oldest of two sons to Pat and Nacho, and was an older brother starting at 3 years old to his younger brother, Doug. Anthony attended Vinland Elementary School, McCardle Elementary School, Ahwahnee Middle School, and Hoover High School in Fresno, CA and graduated in 2002.

Anthony was one of many cousins in the Loera family and he loved every single one of them with all his heart. From his younger brother to his niece, Alenea, and his oldest “brother”, his uncle Beto, he had a passion to keep in touch with everyone and let you know how much you meant to him. He had a huge heart for everyone around him, whether he knew them or not. While in Omaha, Anthony helped provide homeless services to those in the Downtown area where he lived.

Anthony loved to play basketball above all things throughout his life- “hoops” to him. He played soccer and baseball as a kid and ran cross country and track in high school. Despite only running cross country to stay in shape for basketball season, he became a regional cross country champion and went to the State Championship in his junior year of high school in 2000. While he often rode the bench in high school, Anthony loved to play basketball recreationally and often played at local gyms and parks wherever he lived. Later in life, he loved to play golf with his dad and brother, loving the outdoors. He was a lifelong competitor in anything he did. He often traded wins in golf with his dad and was beaten only once by his brother. He was a fighter no matter what he did and never gave up despite any circumstances.

After he graduated high school, Anthony moved to the Bay Area and lived in Hayward, Dublin, Pleasant Hill, Danville, and San Ramon. There, he worked primarily in food service, both front and back of house, while he attended Le Cordon Bleu culinary school in San Francisco, which sparked a lifelong love for cooking. His favorite dishes to make were cheesecake, chocolate mousse, broccoli cheddar soup, and braised pork chops, as well as a variety of other dishes that were always delicious.

Anthony had a deep earnestness to connect with others, through sports, food, movies, TV shows, music, video games, plays, musicals, church- you name it. He was a lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Atlanta Braves, and Chicago Bulls and constantly let everyone know of his affinities in his conversations and dress; always sporting a jersey, shirt, or hat for one of his favorite teams. He had a voracious appetite for movies, TV shows, and music, often watching 30+ TV shows at a time and asking his brother to download new movies constantly for him to watch. He loved playing sports video games, including NBA2k, Madden, and MLB The Show. He had a 20+ year love of the video game franchise Halo, which he played with countless friends, online people, his brother, and uncle.

Anthony will be deeply missed by the many family members that survive him, including his father and mother, his brother, his grandmother Angie, many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, acquaintances, former co-workers, hoop partners, and any who knew him. He was a kind and loving person who always wanted more out of life.

His services will be held at Bethesda Church at 3723 E Dakota Ave, Fresno, CA 93726 at 10:00am on January 17, 2025. In honor of Anthony, sports attire is encouraged but not required. There will be a reception that follows at the same location. All are welcome, and bring a story about Anthony. Flowers, cards, etc. are welcome by the family.
