Anne's obituary

Anne Marie O’Neil, a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, great-aunt, and grandmother, passed away at the age of 76 on October 8, 2025. A lifelong Massachusettsan, daughter to John and Isabelle Hegarty, Anne grew up the 9th child of a classically large Irish-American family of 11, in a 3-bed 1-bath apartment in the Cambridge neighborhood of Agassiz School—what would turn out to be just a few blocks from her future husband, William (Bill) O’Neil. For several decades, Anne worked for the Cambridge-based Polaroid Corporation. This proved the wellspring of a friendship circle that led to summertime Cape rentals, sailing trips in the Caribbean, and a home with Bill on Mashnee Island. It was a testament to Anne’s talent for sustaining and nurturing friendship, her appetite for adventure, and her characteristic generosity that throughout her life she sought out travel to new places in the company of good friends, masterminded reunions to bring family across the country together, and was a rock of unfailing support for all. Anne was beloved by her husband Bill O'Neil; daughter Kate (O'Neil) Noto-Moniz; stepdaughters Kerry (O'Neil) Driscoll and Kim O'Neil; sons-in-law Austin Noto-Moniz, Jonas Driscoll, and Nasser Mufti; her grandchildren Conner and Jack Driscoll; siblings Jack, Patricia, Mary, Isabelle, Robert, Mother Karol Marie FSE, and the late William, Paul, Judith and Carol; many nieces and nephews and their children, whom she adored; and an extensive group of dear friends, including steadfast travel partner, Ellen Walsh, close-knit fellow Mashnee Islanders, Potter Pond neighbors, and cherished crewmates of her sailing days.
