Ann-Marie's obituary
On August 3, 2023, Ann-Marie Longanecker, 64, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away while surrounded by family and friends. Born to Teofilo and Evelyn Rael, Ann-Marie and her sister Linda were raised in San Dimas, CA. Ann-Marie studied at Mt San Antonio College where she met her husband, Mark. Mark and Ann-Marie were married at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church in 1981. Ann-Marie had an extensive work history as Executive and Senior Executive Assistant as well as office manager in the insurance, business networking, and church fields.
Ann-Marie had a deep-practicing faith in God as a devout Hebrew Catholic and Messianic Jew. She and her husband were members at Saint Anthony's Catholic Church in Upland, CA as well as Beth Shalom Messianic Jewish Congregation in Corona, CA. Ann-Marie had a passion and deep interest in church, Jewish, and Sephardic Jewish Synagogue liturgies. Ann-Marie was a Catholic liturgist and cantor. She sang as a cantor with The Messengers. a church folk music group, during the Saturday night masses at Saint Peter and Saint Paul Catholic Church in Alta Loma, CA as well as Our Lady of the Assumption in Claremont, CA. She also sang at Holy Name of Mary in San Dimas, Saint Dorothy in Glendora, Saint Anthony's in Upland, as well as a few others. Ann-Marie also sang in the Ron Griffin Choir as well as other Catholic music concert choirs. Ann-Marie was also the music director for the annual Chaucer Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption. She organized and lead a choir who specialized in Middle Age church liturgy as well as Middle English. She also organized musicians who specialized in playing musical instruments from the Middle Age time period. Ann-Marie also sang in a church production of "Song of Mark".
In 2008, Mark and Ann-Marie participated in a three week pilgrimage to Turkey and Greece that was organized by Father Tom Welbers. Ann-Marie was so happy to go on this pilgrimage.
Ann-Marie's other passions and interests include reading and writing. She and her husband were writers and editors for a Catholic publication, "Torah Notes", that they founded which focused on providing catechetical, cultural, and historical teaching points on Sunday Mass readings. Ann-Marie was also an avid gardener and was an expert botanist. In addition to her wonderful voice, Ann-Marie also found pleasure playing her flute and recorders. She also organized a rabbit rescue where she cared for many wild and domesticated rabbits from home.
Ann-Marie and Mark were happily married for 43 years and greatly enjoyed each other's company. Ann-Marie is survived by her husband, Mark Longanecker, their son, Michael Longanecker, her mother Evelyn Bluhm, her sister Linda Arias, her brother-in-law, Khader Khoury, her niece, Cristina Arias, daughter-in-law, Pyper Brown, her grand-daughter, Aubrey Longanecker, brother-in-law Raphael Arias, her sister-in-law, Leann Baptista, her nephew, Todd Baptista, and her great-nephew, Lucien Baptista.
There will be a viewing, a rosary, and a celebration of life at Guerra Gutierrez Custer Christiansen Mortuary in Covina on Tuesday August 29, 2023 from 4:00-9:00 pm. The address is 124 S. Citrus Ave, Covina, CA 91723.
The Funeral Mass will be at Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Upland on Wednesday August 30, 2023 at 10:00 am. The address is 2110 N. San Antonio Ave, Upland, CA 91784. There will be a reception following the mass with refreshments as we gather to celebrate her wonderful life. All are welcome to attend. Please RSVP so we can have an estimated count of guests.
