Ann's obituary
Ann Guran, ever the global citizen but born in Springfield, Missouri on July 2, 1941, passed away unexpectedly on December 26, 2023. Ann is survived by her wife & partner of 36 years Judy, her children Kevin, Larissa & Darren and her grandchildren Ainsley & Duncan.
Ann was a friend, a teacher, a mother, a partner, a Girl Scout leader, an expert at camping in the rain, a travel agent, a supporter of progressive news channels. She was exceptionally skilled at all her efforts - keeping her last job for years after leaving the state where she was initially hired. She volunteered as an abortion clinic escort, she studied Turkish just because she could. Ever the optimist, she supported the National Organization for Women chapter in Port St. Lucie Florida. She was sharp-witted, fiercely loving, and stronger than she thought she was. She loved crafting and was always creating something beautiful, whether it was a simple decoupaged votive candle holder or a finely knitted sweater made from wool gathered during her world travels.
World traveler & collector of inconvenient souvenirs, she greatly enjoyed the period of her life that allowed her to take a trip abroad annually. Tanzania, Galapagos Islands, the Christmas Markets of Germany, Machu Picchu and Guatemala were some of the memorable trips. She shared her love of travel with her grandchildren, taking them on specially tailored individual trips around the world. She brought granddaughter to the Globe Theatre and Stonehenge at the summer solstice. She took her grandson to Australia & Aotearoa New Zealand where they went kangaroo spotting, visited the glow worm caves and learned about the Maori people.
She could always find the foreigner, the traveler, the people far from home and befriend them. No matter how homogeneous the community where she lived seemed, she always had friends from all over the world. She lived in dozens of cities in 10 states but ultimately found a happy home in Happy Camp. There she sat on the board of the library, participated in local arts events, was proud to be included in Karuk basketweaver events and enjoyed the company of her friends & neighbors.
Memorial donations may be made to the Happy Camp Library through the Siskiyou County Vestal Library Foundation. Designate gifts to support the Happy Camp library, donations can be made by mail to Vestal Library Foundation PO Box 117, Yreka, CA 96097.
