Angelo's obituary

Angelo Barbaccia, 81, passed away peacefully at home on June 17, 2024, in Sun City West, Ariz.

Angelo was born in San Giuseppe Jato, Provincia Palermo, Sicily, in 1942. However, he moved to Queens, New York, in his youth and then later to the Chicago-area suburbs as an adult, where he raised his family. After retirement, he moved with his wife to Sun City West, Ariz., where he joked that he spent much of his time deciding which golf course to play with friends and then unwinding with them at “the 19th hole.”

Although sometimes Angelo appeared to have a no-nonsense, tough exterior, he was a softie on the inside with the biggest heart and would do anything for family and friends. His grandchildren were his pride and joy.

His love for his family was so great that he often teased his daughter-in-law that she was handpicked to join the family since he was responsible for introducing her to his oldest son.

A huge White Sox fan, he loved going to the games in Chicago and then to pre-season training camps once he moved to Arizona. He even met some rookie players without any family in the area and was known to invite them to dinner for his wife’s amazing homemade Italian cooking – sometimes to her surprise when they arrived together back at the house.

Angelo was often the life of the party – always telling jokes and making friends wherever he went. His uproarious laugh was infectious and brought joy to everyone around.

Angelo leaves behind his devoted wife Antonina (nee Pullara); his sons Jack (Tina), Christopher and Marc (Emily Kling); sisters Nina Barbaccia and Giuseppa Episcopo; brothers-in-law Enzo Pullara (Jaunita Pullara) and Santo Pullara (Phyllis Pullara); sisters-in-law Franca Badalamenti and Enza Catanzaro;  grandchildren Michelangelo, Connor, Ethan, and Grace; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Giaocchino and Rosaria Barbaccia; his parents-in-law Giuseppe and Antonina Pullara; sister-in-law Elisabetta; brother-in-law Salvatore Badalamenti; and brothers Angelo and Francesco, who passed away in childhood.
