Angela's obituary

Angela Mora Woodward, 94, resident of Saint Petersburg, Florida since 1992, died of natural causes on Friday, January 27, 2023 in Dallas, Texas.

Angela was born in Hamburg, Germany on February 26, 1928 amid the rising tide of Naziism that overtook that country in the late 1920’s and 30’s. She grew up in Guatemala City, Guatemala where she attended German and French schools and then attended Wayne University in Detroit, Michigan for one year. She taught at the American School in Guatemala City following her return from Michigan. She met her husband, Rupert, in Guatemala City at the binational Guatemala-America Culture Institute and married in 1950. In September 1951 she moved with her husband and son Guy to Rio de Janeiro for more than a year, then San Jose, Costa Rica where she gave birth to her second son, Rupert.

Following a brief return to Guatemala the family moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana for several years, then College Station, Texas, then McLean, Virginia. In Virginia Angela worked as a children’s librarian in the Fairfax County Public Library until her husband passed away in 1981. She moved to Tallahassee, Florida in 1982 and remained until 1992 when she moved to Saint Petersburg to be near her son, Guy. She lived with joy in the lakeside neighborhood of Crescent Lake among the ducks, geese and assorted waterfowl that she tended to for many years. A reader from a very early age she was a constant consumer of fiction, especially mysteries, in later life.

Angela was modest in demeanor, always calm and affectionate. She lived her life with honesty and simplicity and always took the side of the vulnerable and downtrodden members of society, human and animal. She spent part of every day observing the natural world around her with constant curiosity. She cared deeply for all animals, especially her beloved dogs, Maggie, Fonzie, Cody and Mollie, and cats, Pym and Thomas.

Angela was the middle daughter of Carlos Federico Mora and Rosa Mora de Castaneda. She is survived by her sons, Guy, Rupert and wife Joyce; two grandchildren, Blythe Woodward Sacho and Hayley Woodward Pung; first great-grandchild Malia Sacho; and sister Cordelia Mooney. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rupert Woodward; her parents, Carlos Federico Mora and Rosa Mora de Castaneda; brothers Minor Andrade Castaneda, Federico Mora and Nicolas Andrade Castaneda; and sister Eugenia Andrade Cordero.

No memorial service is planned at this time following her cremation. A celebration of life will be planned in the future. Anyone wishing to make a gift in her memory may give to the World Wildlife Fund or a charity of their own preference. No flowers are requested.
