Andressa's obituary

Andressa Arroyo, beloved hairstylist and cherished friend to so many, passed away in New York City on the night of October 27th, leaving behind a legacy of beauty, compassion, and fierce love. Known for her artistry behind the chair, she made people feel seen and beautiful not only through her craft, but through the warmth of her spirit.

More than anything, Andressa’s true calling was being a house mother—a guiding light to every misfit and lost soul who found themselves without family or a place to belong. Her home became a sanctuary built on acceptance, laughter, and love, where anyone could arrive broken and still be met with a plate of food, a listening ear, and her unmistakable laugh echoing down the hall.

She believed in second chances, in chosen family, and in the healing power of kindness. She knew what it meant to feel unseen, and so she made sure no one in her orbit ever felt invisible again. Her living room was often filled with music and conversation, a patchwork of people from every background brought together by her warmth and wit.

Andressa was an avid reader, a lover of stories in every form—whether tucked into a novel late at night or watching a favorite film for the hundredth time, mouthing the lines before the actors did. She had a deep love for theater and music, and her tastes were gloriously unpredictable: one day Broadway show tunes, the next heavy metal, then old-school R&B, then something completely obscure that she insisted everyone had to hear.

She found endless joy in playing IMVU and Second Life, where her imagination soared. There, she created whimsical worlds filled with color, music, and magic—reflections of the hope she carried for others.

She was an oddball in the best possible way. She was goofy, playful, quick with a joke or a wildly exaggerated story that left everyone laughing. She could turn even the most ordinary moment into something memorable, spinning light out of darkness and making everyone around her feel as though they were part of something magical. Vibrant, fun, and beautiful, she carried the weight of the world on her shoulders, and still found ways to make others feel lighter.

Andressa is survived and deeply loved by her house daughters, Nicole James and Marie Rodriguez of the home; her house son Elijah Weaver and his husband Sean, of Manhattan; and a wide circle of beloved friends whose lives she changed with her kindness.

In her virtual world, she is remembered by Gian L. of Panamá, Ton O. of the USA, and Claire H. of London.

She will be missed beyond measure, and her light will live on in every heart she touched.
