Andrea's obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Andrea Abbitt, a beloved mother, daughter, sister, and nurse, who passed away peacefully on September 23rd, 2025. Born on August 7th, 1970, Andrea lived a life filled with compassion, dedication, and love for those she held dear.
Andrea is survived by her son, Avery Abbitt, her mother, Diane Amburgey, and her sisters, Angie Augustine, Alyssa Abbitt Burton, and Stephanie Abbitt Sanders. She was predeceased by her father, Steve Abbitt.
A Celebration of Life in honor of Andrea will be held on October 24th, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services - Lawrence. The family warmly invites those who knew and loved Andrea to join in commemorating her remarkable life.
Andrea was a proud graduate of Kokomo High School class of 1988 and went on to obtain her Associate’s degree from Indiana University Kokomo and her Bachelor’s degree from Indiana Wesleyan University. She found her true calling in life when she started working at Ascension Saint Vincent Hospital in 1991. She embodied the values of her profession, providing care and comfort to many throughout her dedicated career. The joy of her life, her son, was born on May 28th, 2003. Balancing her professional and personal life, she found immense joy in motherhood.
Andrea was a woman of many interests and passions. She was a devoted fan of the Grateful Dead, Tom Petty, and Bob Dylan and loved watching The Colts play. Her favorite movies included Steel Magnolias, and she adored vacationing in Big Sur. Those who knew Andrea, recall her as a kind, outgoing, and dedicated woman, whose lasting legacy was her love and devotion to caring for others.
Andrea lived a life full of accomplishment, but she was most proud of becoming a nurse. Her compassion and dedication were not just her career but her calling, and she will always be remembered for the countless lives she touched throughout her lifetime.
In memory of Andrea, we remember not just the end of her life but celebrate the love, joy, and dedication that defined her life. Her legacy will live on in the hearts and memories of those she loved and those who loved her.
