Andre Griffith of Atlanta, Georgia passed away on Thursday, December, 8, 2022 at the age of 94. After several months of rapid declining health, Andre transferred over peacefully with his beloved children and his grandchildren, great grandchildren by his side. 

Andre was born in Cruz bay, United States Virgin Island on February 10, 1928 to his father Samuel Thomas Griffith and mother Lois Josephine Griffith. The oldest of three sons, Andre was the protector of his youngest brothers Alfred and Andy Griffith. He helped out in his family’s fishing business and worked any odd jobs he could find starting at an early age. His work ethic and desire to take care of his family led to him moving to the United States in 1950, Residing in Atlanta, Georgia particularly Mechanicsville.

During the 1950s it was very uncommon for the Whites to allow African Americans to become managers in their rail yard factories, let alone work for them, however Andre was able to achieve both of these achievements. Throughout these endeavors, he met local Sales Clerk Ida Jean Smith. They married in 1953.  

Albert was preceded in death by his parents Samuel Thomas Griffith and Lois Josephine Griffith. His wife Ida Jean Smith. And his younger brothers Alfred and Andy Griffith. He is survived by his children Gary Andre Griffith, Andreas Lois Griffith and Dorna Gertrude Griffith ; grandchildren Heather Nicole Griffith, Dontae Coley, Jadore Nash, Kinneshia Richards, Briana Richards, Kurt Richards, Kai Colbourne. Great Grandchildren ; Quincy Humphries, Paris Humphries, Messiah Humphries, Khloe Lewis.

A visitation for Albert is planned for Saturday, December 10, 2022, from 12 pm to 2 pm. The visitation will be at the Spencer Funeral Home on 3134 Floyd St NE, Covington, GA 30014. All are invited to attend. The funeral will follow immediately at 3 pm.
