Amy's obituary

Amy Abell (Miller), 70, of Sugar Land, Texas died on January 15, 2026, at Memorial Hermann Hospital due to a battle with ovarian cancer.

She was born in Topeka, Kansas on August 13, 1955, to Charles R. and Vera E. Abell. Her father served in the Air Force and moved all over the country during Amy’s childhood, eventually ending up in Austin, Texas where she graduated from Lanier High School in 1973 and remained for over 30 years.

Amy pursued a career as a Paralegal where she faithfully served for more than 40 years, even reaching her dreams of starting her own Paralegal Firm, MH Paralegal, with her daughter Lacey in 2019. Much of her life, Amy dedicated herself to building her career and even managing the occasional campaign for Democratic Judge’s elections and volunteering for Scottish Festivals, etc.

Some of her favorite things in life were spending time in the Texas Hill Country and especially Seguin at Meadow Lake. Nothing made her happier than spending quality time surrounded with her family and friends, a good bottle of wine, and a board game. Her love and devotion to family was unconditional, being fondly remembered by everyone for her warmth, hospitality, and pure heart, welcoming everyone into her home and caring for everyone around her.

She is survived by her loving husband, Doug Beaton of 18 years; her children Lacey Helmey (Patrick); Corinne Wiseman (Hanan); Clay Threadgill (Victoria); and bonus son Jimmy Threadgill (Barbara). Her grandchildren Annaliese and Lorelai Riley; Wilder and Decker Helmey; bonus grandchildren Kaylee and Austin Threadgill; as well as Ayin and Layne Wiseman. Amy is also survived by her siblings K.C. Abell (Judy); Kelly Abell (Kathy); Tina Bates (Steve); Kyle Abell (Kemi); Chuck Abell (Stephania); and many nieces and nephews.

Amy is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Vera Abell in 2020.

Her Celebration of Life will be held on March 7, 2026, at Fernandos Restaurant (14135 Southwest Fwy, Sugarland, Texas 77478).
