Vuela, Amelia.
In the 80's, After leaving Caracas and coming back in New York , Amelia with her generosity opened her home to me and to Le Chat, my cat. Few days after we went to the Salvation Army and bought a little table to set up my studio in her living room. Those months were being family, I have many fond memories of that time, some evenings, she would be writing at her desk and me working on my table. In those days we took care of each other. I really felt something very strong for her, a bound from the heart. When I run out of visa, I decided to go back to France, there was a deep sadness in this departure, I've carried this sorrow within me for a long time, with this feeling of having lost something that was precious. For years, even during our last call, not that long ago, she would sing the first notes of Manon from Massenet : Adieu, notre petite table qui nous réunit si souvent, Adieu, Adieu notre petite table si grande pour nous, cependant!
She is a bright star in my sky
Dominique

I was so sorry to hear about Amelia. My heart is with Barbara and Mateo and all of Amelia's family and friends who will miss her.

I’ll always be grateful to our dear friend Paul Pannkuk for introducing me to her. From the very start, Amelia was such a gorgeous, fiery and irresistible force of nature! She had a magnetic energy, a mind blowing intellect, unapologetic honesty, and hysterical, on-point irreverence when sharing her observations and take on people and life in general.

Amelia was also such an inspiration to me! She helped me find the courage to leave my very secure, and profoundly tedious career in the corporate world and start teaching art 25 years ago. This was something that truly changed my life.

Her wonderful way of guiding kids to observe and to talk about art — her “MITE!” Art curriculum became a huge part of how I taught art observation, first at the Lycée Français de New York and now leading the Docent program at the Long Beach, CA Museum of Art. I feel her influence every day, as do my Docents.

I feel so lucky to have known her.

Please feel my hugs as I send love and warm thoughts to all who held her dear.
