I was so sad when I heard the news of Amari's passing. I remember how shy he was as a teenager and when I would talk to him he would respond with a smile and open up to the conversation. I’ll never forget that smile. My condolences to the family.
I will never forget when Amari came to visit me and asked how to use the equipment in Nocturnal Grooves’ Studio. I said come on down into the studio and I’ll show you. The smile on his face was priceless! The feeling in my heart could not be expressed. I too had a huge KoolAide smile going on. With everything powered down I explained each piece of equipment and their function. He had an amazing gaze on his face and asked if he could try it. I said of course you can, but first you must take some time to look over the Nocturnal Grooves Music Library and choose what you want to play. The first thing he asked after my showing the server the housed the station’s Library, his eyes widen and said you have over 96,000 Songs! Then said it will take me forever to look through what you have. I then said choose a Genre and click on just one until you hear something you like, he chose House Music. I said fantastic choice! We listened to a few and he said now what. Told him to creat a folder with 45 or 50 Tracks he liked and WoW! He picked some really nice music. Amari having some previous knowledge of DJing with Vinyl on 1200’s made it a little easier to explain thinks once I introduced him to my CDJ’s and the Rane Rotary Mixer. It was very easy for him and he adapted almost immediately. After just playing one track behind the other for about ten minutes, he started blending and beat matching. Well at that point I was completely impressed and excited and just had to record what he was doing. Unbeknownst to him I put him online “Live”! Hit the reword button and started making call to family to hear his creative talent. Amari play for more than two (2) hours. I will be posting his mix on this Site under Videos and be clicking this Link: https://youtu.be/Y85kX_-dvOo?…. When Amari finished spinning this mix he said “I Love This Thing Called House”, so that’s what I named the upload. I hope you enjoy and treasure Amari’s DJing skills, abilities and his love for music. From the day he spun this mix and until this day listening to my Grandson do his thing has never gotten old. He will never be forgotten and Amari’s artistry will live on forever, for those who chose to accept and take his musical talents and journey. Thank you Amari aka DJ Lavish.
