Amara's obituary
Our sweet baby Amara passed away peacefully on August 17th, surrounded by love and family. She was very comfortable and at peace, and we are so grateful that she will have no more suffering.
Amara’s name in different languages means grace, love, immortal, and everlasting. Although we chose it long before we met her, it’s a perfect fit. We know her every moment was filled with love, and that her existence continues beyond this life. Her soul is soaring, joyful and free, in the eternal Kingdom of God. Someday we will be reunited with our precious girl, but she is now in the arms of all our loved ones who have gone before her.
Amara is laid to rest alongside other children at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward, at 37.6456° N, 122.0610° W. Visitors are welcome.
We had an incredible blessing to spend the last week of her life at George Mark House, a facility for children facing life limiting diagnoses. Words will never be able to describe what it meant for us to have that time together making memories and enjoy being a family. Darren and Strider meet their sister for the first time in the gardens at George Mark, and thankfully not in the NICU. We got to take her outside in the sunshine, picnic in the grass, stroll the gardens and be surrounded by family and love. Her medical needs were met in this wondrous place that feels much more like a home than a hospital. We were able to enjoy the very best days of her life with such beauty & peace.
This Baha'i prayer has become a favorite that we say often for Amara:
"O Lord! Help this daughter of the Kingdom to be exalted in both worlds; cause her to turn away from this mortal world of dust and from those who have set their hearts thereon and enable her to have communion and close association with the world of immortality. Give her heavenly power and strengthen her through the breaths of the Holy Spirit that she may arise to serve Thee. Thou art the Mighty One." —‘Abdu’l‑Bahá
On every step of this journey, we have been supported with an outpouring of support, countless prayers, and extraordinary community. Your love has carried us through the unimaginable, and we are so grateful.
