Pat's obituary

Our beloved Alvira Patricia "Pat" Harris-Redd was born on October 25, 1953, to the Late Dorothy T. Harris and Stepfather Roosevelt Dillard in New York, New York. As a young woman she attended Fashion Industries HS in the early 1970s and later studied as a Medical Assistant at Manhattan Medical Cornell University.

Pat, as she was fondly called, was always full of life. She was the life of the party. Whenever she entered the room and could strike up a conversation and make any and everyone feel like family. To know her was to love her. She loved to draw, cook, travel and fashion. She was a free spirit, and nothing slowed her down.

In 1978 she went to visit a longtime friend and beau and it was during that visit that the late Woodrow E Redd from New York and she decided to start a new life, and she moved to join him in San Diego and got married in 1979.

Pat worked as an Adolescent Psychiatric Nurse at Southwood Psychiatric Center for a little under a decade, where she received awards recognizing her as exemplary employee. It was hard for her to retire and say goodbye to her co-workers and friends she made as well as the many patients who loved and adored her.

Although Pat had some health issues nothing slowed her down, not even her pacemaker. She is definitely one you can say nothing ever stopped her. She was going to do whatever she wanted and say what was on her mind.

Pat was preceded in death by her late husband Woodrow E. Redd in 1984 and her grandson Devan L Mitchell Sept 1994.

  • She leaves to cherish her memories daughter Serene N Redd, son Hakeem J Quinn of the home. Her 3 granddaughters Zana Mitchell of Raleigh, NC, KiYara Mitchell of San Diego, Ca, and Iyanna Redd of Raleigh, NC, and great-granddaughter Alaya Mitchell. Her 3 stepsons Victor Redd of AZ, Dexter Redd of AZ, and Johnny Redd of VA. She also leaves behind her extended family that she loved as her own Miyoshi Watson (Jessie) of Charleston, SC, Regina Smith of Stockbridge, Ga, Stacy Bolt of Queens, NY, Reginald Bolt III of Raleigh, NC, and Mark McNair of Pennsylvania. And a host of Step grandchildren and extended grandchildren. “Cousins, other relatives and friends.”
