Sonny's obituary
Beloved father, devoted husband, and cherished ‘Pop,’ Alphonse J. Voza, 91, peacefully passed away on November 17th, 2022 in Florida. He was born and raised in Jersey City, NJ.
Sonny was as a Corporal in the U.S Army Division, and served in Korea from 1952-1954. After he returned from the Army, he moved to Lyndhurst, NJ where he would spend the next 35 years of his life. He was a member of American Legion Post 139, Amvets Post 20 & Post 777.
Sonny had a passion for cars and opened Voza Automotive in Lyndhurst. He worked there from 1972 and retired in 1989 when he moved to Port Charlotte, Florida. In his free time, Sonny loved riding his motorcycles. He was also a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association.
Sonny was an avid sports lover. He was a life long New York Yankees and New York Giants fan. He had Giants season tickets and attended their Super Bowl appearances in 1986 and 2000 with his son, David. He also sponsored many Lyndhurst girls’ softball teams.
Sonny is predeceased by his parents Albert and Louise, his sisters Concetta, Frances and Josephine, his son Anthony, his grandson David Jr., and his great granddaughter Penelope. He is survived by his brother Richard, his son David Sr., and his granddaughters Joelle, Shauna, Stephanie and Natalie. He is also survived by his wife Dorothy, her daughters Sandra and her husband Thomas, and Michele and her husband Richard, her grandchildren Samantha, Thomas, Renee and Patrick, and her great grandson Jameson. He is also survived by many cousins, nephews and nieces.
Friends and family are invited to honor Sonny’s life at a memorial on Sunday, December 18th at the American Legion Post 139 in Lyndhurst, NJ from 2-5pm.
