Alora's obituary
Alora J. Rethazy, age 110, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2022. She was born on April 13, 1912, on the RMS Titanic. Two days after birth, the Titanic crashed into an iceberg and began to sink. Her parents Bella Rethazy and Leah Witten did everything in their power to ensure that their daughter was safe, but, realizing that they would not survive altogether, her mother's made it a priority that out of the three of them, she survived. They bundled her up, fed her, put her in a pot and then floated her into the ocean, hoping that someone would come to save her. Fortunately, another ship came to rescue her. On April 15, 1912, at approximately 3:35 am Alora was hoisted up onto the deck of the S.S. Carpathia. They rushed her inside, warmed her up, and fed her. No one knew what to do with this baby, but thankfully, a rich couple by the name of William Wellington II and Eliza Scarlett came forward and adopted her. She grew up in London, England all her life, but after graduating from Oxford, decided that she wanted to practice medicine, in Canada. She then went on to become a very successful heart surgeon and won many awards such as the Hilaris Women Scientist Award, Hilaris Outstanding Speaker Award, and the Vitals Compassionate Doctor Award. During her practices, she met the love of her life, Henery Darcy. She is survived by her children, Hermione (Ron), Harry (Ginevra-Ginny), and Neville (Hannah); and many nieces and nephews. Family, friends, and others whose lives Alora touched are invited to Erb&Good Funeral home 171 King St S, Waterloo, ON N2J 1P7 on Tuesday from 3-6, to celebrate, reminisce, and support one another, during this difficult time. Celebration of life will be closed for family and friends.
