With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Alonzo Perry, a man of strength, conviction, and generosity, who peacefully left us on August 9, 2024. Born on November 7, 1931, Alonzo led an exemplary life filled with love, faith, and service to his country and his community.

Alonzo is survived by his beloved family; his wife, Thelma Perry, with whom he shared a loving marriage since 1955; his three sons and one daughter, Curtis & his wife Claudine, Sharon Clark and her husband Norman, Gregory and his wife Genie, and Eric and his wife Janna Perry. Al was also blessed with nine grandchildren and two great-grand children.  Not only was Alonzo a devoted family man, but he also left a strong legacy of raising four well adjusted children, which was one of his greatest accomplishments.

Alonzo graduated from North Carolina A&T State University in 1956, earning a B.S. in Biology. His remarkable career began as a 2nd Lt. in the US Army, during which he bravely fought in the Korean War in 1950 and the Vietnam War in 1968. He retired from the Army as a Major in 1973. His drive to serve did not end here, and he commenced a second career as an ROTC Instructor at George Washington High School, where he left his mark before retiring in 1990.

A firm believer in Jesus the Christ, Alonzo was an active attendee at New Hope Christian Fellowship. His faith guided his actions and his life, as evidenced by his role as an organizer of an Adult Bible Study. He believed in and lived by the lessons of hospitality and the importance of family.

Alonzo's interests and tastes were simple yet profound. A fan of Nat King Cole, he also found joy in TV shows like Gunsmoke and any western movie. The Broncos always found a supporter in him, and he enjoyed games of poker and scrabble. He raised numerous vegetables in his garden. He delighted in catfish, collard greens navy beans, corn bread and peach pie, finding comfort in the simple pleasures of life. His favorite pastime was fishing, and he loved spending time by the beautiful Lake Ogallala.

His favorite colors reflected his vibrant personality - red for passion and dedication, embodying his generous and serving nature. Alonzo's legacy will be remembered as one of acceptance, generosity, kindness, and servant leadership. His impact will live on in the hearts of all those who were fortunate to have known him.
