Alma's obituary
Alma Barbara Jenkins was born on July 8 1945 in Houston Texas. She lived in Temecula, California; she passed away unexpectedly on September 24 2024 of at the age of 79.
Alma was born on July 8 1945 to Clyde Horace Jenkins and Vida Marie Jenkins.
She attended private catholic school K-12; performing in plays. Singing and dancing was her passion. Alma graduated from Saint Nicholas High school in 1963 and was the class salutatorian . She went on to major in nursing and worked as a surgical technician at Memorial Hermann-Texas hospital. She later changed her major to criminal justice, and graduated as a Paralegal at Palomar College in the early 1970's.
After graduating college with a degree in criminal justice, she started working for the Black Lawyers association, then worked for Judge Warden and Judge James A. Wilson in the 1980's. Alma also known as " Barbara " went on to work at the Legal Aid society for 13 years then worked for the San Diego Superior Court. She worked in family law and arbitration. Before retiring at the Superior Vista Court House as the Deputy Jury Commissioner. She received recognition for a proposal she made to the court house. The story was featured in the local news paper. Alma finally retired at the Superior Court of California, County of Riverside - Temecula Courthouse in the traffic department in 2012.
In the 1960's Alma met and married her first husband Raynard Fontenot who served in the Navy. They had two daughters, Michelle Fontenot, and Tracey Fontenot. In the early 1970's she married Sam Ewing, a marine based in Oceanside camp pendleton , and later they had one child Samantha Maria Ewing. In the late 1970's she met her significant other, Kenneth Newton who served in the air-force, and they went on to have one child Vida Versia Newton.
Alma enjoyed working out, dancing, and had three gym memberships where she attended zumba class 7 days a week. She was an example and inspiration to others. She was a fashion icon, tough, independent. A true force to be reckoned with.
Alma was a strong women of God, and had absolute devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ. She read her bible day and night. Even though she was no longer a catholic she still enjoyed attending mass and receiving communion. Alma had respect for all religions, she briefly became a Buddhist in the early 1980's. Alma's faith lead her back to Christ. She found strength in the Almighty God.
Survived by her daughters: Michelle Fontenot, Tracey Fontenot-Sherman (Donald Sherman),Samantha Ewing, Vida Pfeffer (Charles Pfeffer).
Grandchildren: Adrrian Sherman, Christian Sherman, Demi Sherman, Brooke Sherman, Destiny Pfeffer.
Great-grandchildren: Baileigh Sherman, London Sherman
