Allen's obituary

It is with heavy hearts and fond memories that we announce the death of Dr. Allen Clayton. Born on September 1, 1951, Allen walked into the heavenly arms of his Lord and Savior on January 26, 2025. Predeceased by his loving parents, Harold Amos Clayton and Ada Mae Clayton, he leaves behind a legacy of kindness, humor, and profound spirituality.

Allen is survived by his adoring wife, Mary Clayton, and their cherished daughter, Monica Clayton. His family was the cornerstone of his life and one of his most significant accomplishments. Allen and Mary were married in 1973, after which they welcomed Monica into their lives in 1986.

Allen was a quiet and thoughtful man with a playful spirit and a wonderful sense of humor. He was a lifelong learner, beginning his educational journey at Southern California College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1973. He further advanced his studies at Yale University, obtaining a Master of Theology in 1976, and finally at Southern Methodist University, where he achieved a Doctor of Philosophy in Religious Studies in 1988 after submitting his thesis on the life and learning of Athenasius.

Throughout his life, Allen indulged in various passions. He was a fan baseball and enjoyed watching his favorite sports teams, the LA Dodgers, Anaheim Angels, and Texas Rangers. He also found joy in playing Sudoku, watching performances of Les Misérables and A Christmas Carol, and riding his recumbent bicycle.

His favorite books were "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" and anything that included religious studies; a testament to his eclectic interests and deep faith. He was a devout man, living his life as a disciple of Christ and sharing lessons on faith.

Notably, Allen leaves a legacy of kindness, selflessness, and unwavering faith. He was loved and admired by many and will be missed deeply. He had a fondness for cats, especially his feline companion, PC, and often expressed a desire to take an Alaskan cruise with his wife, Mary.

We cordially invite those who knew and loved Allen to attend a Celebration of Life in his honor on February 7, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Calvary Church. Come join us as we remember the life of this incredible man and pay tribute to his enduring spirit. His was a life well-lived, and his memory will be cherished forever.
