Allan's obituary

Allan Meyer, 82, of Fox River Grove, IL passed away by complications of heart disease on January 04, 2023. He was surrounded by his family.

Allan was predeceased by his parents Irving and June Meyer. He is survived by his wife Sandy, children Debbie and Mickey, son and daughter in-law Joe and Heather and grandchildren (Allie, Nick, Morgan, and Lauren).  Also, his sister Susan Meyer Rello.  Allan attended Barrington High School where he met his wife Sandy of 60 years.  Allan was an amazing husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. And, of course, lover of all things with a motor to work on.

His sense of humor is legendary and went alongside his positive, "can do" attitude.

You could typically find him working on something in his garage.  He was the first person you thought of when you needed to borrow a tool and he was quick to lend a hand if needed. Allan was a creative artist, a public servant, and visionary entrepreneur.  He rebuilt, painted, and raced cars. He served his community as a police officer and chief of police and had the vision and courage to start several new businesses including three, he passed on to his children.  His legacy is of a generous man of many talents and great integrity.

Besides his family, he loved the Fox River.  He lived on or near it most of his life and enjoyed boating, snowmobiling, fishing or just gazing at the beautiful view from their home in Fox River Grove he helped build 42 years ago.  He and his wife Sandy could often be seen riding around the village on their golf cart.

There will be a memorial gathering   on January 21, 2023 in the Chapel  at   Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington from 10:30 to 12:00 followed by a service at 12:00.  There will a lunch following the service at the Norge Ski Club house on Ski Hill Drive, Fox River Grove.  The family requests that a donation be made in lieu of flowers to Vitas Hospice, whose members were so kind and caring to Allan and his family.
