Al was married to my sister Sandy.  Rose and Bob Gergen visited Al and Sandy and they drove us all around the Fox River Grove in their golf cart and had wonderful lunch at a Mexican restaurant.

Al drove us around town in his 1957 Chevy and to a car show in which we have many pictures.

I just read of Al’s passing yesterday (1-26) and missed the service. I’m retired and my former Police Department sent me the notice as they had just learned the news as well. I was fortunate to have met Al on several occasions as I also had served as Chief of Police for the same Department (many years after Al’s career). We created a lobby plaque honoring past Chiefs and during that time I spoke with Al numerous times discussing his law enforcement experiences and history of the Police Department (and of course his love of old cars). I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Al, he was fascinating to talk with and truly a great guy. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure to meet him, may he rest in peace.

I don't think I could have asked for a better neighbor than Al and Sandy.  Such a kind hearted giver and friend to all in the neighborhood. My heart aches with the news of his passing but am so glad he is out of suffering.

We are so sorry to hear of Al’s passing. Last July 31st we had the pleasure of taking Al and Sandy out on our 1968 Chris Craft that they used to be the proud owners of. We had a delightful day. Al and Sandy were both so happy to be back on board the boat. It was a day neither Charles and I will ever forget. Al expressed over and over how happy he was that someone was still enjoying the boat as much as he, Sandy and their children had. He shared so many stories that day. Hugs and prayers to family, he was an amazing man that will surely be missed by many.

It’s been a while since I’ve reached out, though my mom has always kept me up to date on the happenings in the Grove. Al and his family will always be a part of my memories growing up there. He will be missed. Your family is in my thoughts, and I’m sorry for your loss.

I think Poppy is the only grandpa who is remembered by his grandchildren for days spent on wave runners. Mom you said it best when Allie and I stayed at their trailer in Florida, that Poppy would give you the shirt off his back even if it meant he would freeze. We'll all miss him so much, but should count ourselves lucky to have had him as long as we did.
My deepest sympathy to your family. Al was a terrific person!
Debbie we are so sorry for your loss. Louie remembers his love for cars frequently seeing him at the car shows. We also miss his love for the Fox River seeing him enjoying boating. A great man who will be missed by many.
I’m so sorry for your loss.   Your Dad seemed so youthful and fun and so devoted to his family and the community.  Sending my love and prayers to all of you.
We are so sorry for your loss. We are going to miss seeing him at El Sombrero.  He would always stop at our table for a quick chat. Keeping you and your family in our thoughts and prayers. Love you guys.
