Allan David Bates, 77, of Clearwater, Florida passed away at home on October 7, 2025.
Allan was born on December 8, 1947, to Charles & Genevieve Bates in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Allan was raised in Schoolcraft, Michigan and graduated from Schoolcraft High School in 1966. He attended Western Michigan University and was enrolled in their engineering program. From an early age Allan enjoyed restoring classic cars, boating and photography.
He relocated to the Orlando, Florida area in 1978 and was involved in the boating industry. In 1987 Allan accepted a management opportunity with a boat dealership and relocated to Clearwater, Florida
As an avid automotive and boating enthusiast, Allan spent his life in recreational vehicle sales. It was at one of these positions that Allan met his wife of 25 years, Melinda.
In 1993, Allan met Melinda in Clearwater, Florida and they immediately formed a once-in-a-lifetime connection. They married in 2000.
During their marriage Allan and Melinda spent many years traveling to areas of interest around the world. They enjoyed adventure traveling where they could indulge in their passion for nature and wildlife photography. Some of their most enjoyable trips were to Alaska where they hiked into the wilderness to photograph the bears and on safari in Africa.
Allan was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Genevieve Bates, and his older sister, Pat. He is survived by his wife Melinda; his sons, Brian, and Kevin; his sister, Sue; his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Allan was a handsome, warm, and charming man with a wonderful smile that brightened others’ lives and made them feel special. He was the epitome of character, integrity, and strength. He is in our hearts forever.
