Alice's obituary
Alice Gayle Toone, 72, was born on August 2, 1953, in Birmingham, Alabama, and passed away peacefully on Friday, June 27, 2025, after a courageous and lengthy battle with a chronic lung illness.
Alice was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose vibrant spirit touched everyone she met. She was known for her warm smile, quick wit, and a presence that made others feel instantly at ease. She married the love of her life, the late David Cockerham, and together they shared 30 meaningful years of marriage, filled with laughter, love, and music.
She is survived by her two children, Dane and Billie Jean, who carry on her legacy with strength and grace. Alice was a proud and devoted grandmother to four grandchildren: Dylan, Kelcee, Joshua, and Christopher, all of whom brought immense joy to her life.
Alice is also survived by her loving siblings—three sisters, Polly, Debra, and Tammy; and three brothers, Ellis, Rodney, and Timothy—each of whom shared in a lifetime of memories, laughter, and deep family bonds.
A true music lover at heart, Alice had a deep appreciation for live performances and never missed an opportunity to support local bands and artists. The Grateful Dead held a special place in her heart, and their music provided the soundtrack to many cherished moments in her life.
Her warmth, generosity, and free-spirited nature will be remembered by all who knew her. Though she has left this world, Alice’s memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
