Ali's obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we inform you of the passing of our father, Chaplain Ali Muallif Umar, who passed away on October 1, 2024. Ali brought joy and happiness to those who had the privilege of being in his life and will be missed and loved dearly by his family, friends, and colleagues. Ali is survived by his wife Suaad El Sharief, 11 of his children, Malik, Aisha, Muhammed, Mujahid, Mayzabaan, Muallif, Sitreen, Sunny, Salsabeela, Sujud, and Seemah, 34 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. Ali is preceded in death by his daughter Teresa.

Ali was born in New York City, NY and graduated with a Bachelors of Science from City University of New York. Ali also received his P.O.S.T. Certification and became a New a York City Police Officer.

Ali spent 10 years working and traveling in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia before marrying and moving back to the United States. His adventurous life included Special Forces training and private security for the Royal Family of Saudi Arabia. Ali was also a second degree black belt, karate sensei, and a  recreational rock climber.

In his continuous journey towards a righteous and empathetic path, Ali become a certified Substance Use Disorder Counselor and in 2022, Ali received his Master of Arts in Psychology: Marriage and Family Therapy.

Ali volunteered with the local fire department and continuously volunteered with disaster and hurricane rescue and cleanup events. He was very involved and respected in his religious community as an Imam at Masjid Al-Aqabah in Fresno, CA. Ali’s memory will live on through the empathetic nature of his children and through those who apply his lessons towards a greater purpose.

“A trauma is very similar to a splinter in the hand. Left alone it will continue to hurt and fester, it may even become infected. The solution is to remove the splinter and that will require digging it out. This may temporarily cause more pain than what one is feeling currently, but that pain is only temporary and after it there can be healing and peace. Such is often the case with therapy.” -Ali M. Umar
