Algertha “Gert” Milton was born in Pahokee, Florida on October 7, 1939 to George and Georgia Ann Carter (both deceased). She was the fifth of eleven children in the family. She graduated from Lakeshore High School in the late 1950’s and then married Otis W. Milton, Jr. shortly afterwards. While Otis pursued his Bachelor’s degree at Florida A&M University, he and Gert began a family with the birth of Aloysius, Otis III, and Cathy. While living on a college campus, Gert came into contact with Jehovah’s Witnesses. After graduating college, Otis moved the family to Melbourne, FL where eventually Gert was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1964. Twelve years later, Otis and Gert welcomed their youngest child, their daughter Agile. Gert was a faithful servant of Jehovah for nearly 60 years. She died of Alzheimer’s disease on March 2, 2023. She was predeceased by eight siblings. She is survived by her older sister Claretha Codrington, her younger brother Glonger Carter, her four children—Aloysius, Otis III (Theresa), Cathy, and Agile, her granddaughter Ana, her numerous nieces and nephews, and multitudes of family friends in the faith.
