Alfred's obituary
He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, service and unwavering commitment to those around him.
Born on April 23,1940 in Egypt, PA, Alfred grew up in Allentown, PA, where he quickly became known for his athleticism in both football and wrestling. Following graduation from Allen High School in 1958, Alfred attended the United States Military Academy at West Point and was a proud member of the “CanDo” class of 1962. He completed two tours of duty in Vietnam and proudly served his country as a career officer for 30 years, earning a Masters as well as a Doctoral degree in Physical Education from Penn State. He concluded his military career as a Colonel, culminating with his appointment as the Deputy Director of Physical education at West Point. He was an All American athlete in both football and wrestling and is an inductee of both the Lehigh Valley and the Army Sports Hall of Fame.
Upon retirement, he and his wife, Lynda relocated to North Carolina where he enjoyed a thriving career in real estate. His expertise and wisdom were sought after by colleagues, family and friends alike, earning him admiration and respect throughout his career.
Beyond his athletic and professional accomplishments, Alfred will be remembered most for his devotion to his family and friends. He cherished every moment spent with his loved ones, creating countless memories that will be treasured for generations to come.
In his free time, Alfred enjoyed membership in various philanthropic organizations to include being a lifetime Rotarian and former president. He could also often be found playing cards with friends and bringing joy and laughter to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His infectious smile and quick wit left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
He is survived by his son, Tim and wife, Karen, and their 3 children: Chad and his companion, Cora Geiter, Cory Rushatz, and Callie Rushatz; daughter, Terri and husband, Michel Dussault; and daughter, Tasha and husband, Roger Fehnel.
He was predeceased by his wife, Lynda, and two grandsons, Adam Dussault and Colin Rushatz.
Alfred’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him, but his spirit will live on through the countless lives he touched. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be forever in our hearts.
