Alfred's obituary
We regretfully announce the passing of Alfred S. Chrzan, 70, of Roseburg, OR, Eureka, SD, as well as Vero Beach, FL. Alfred passed away August 20, 2021, after a battle with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Alfred was born to Alfred Edward and Jahala R. Chrzan on September 13th, 1950, in Springfield, MA. A kind, independent, and vibrant personality from the beginning, he went to Noah Webster Elementary School in Hartford, CT. He attended Loomis Institute, where he was an athlete who was on the wrestling, lacrosse, and football teams. Alfred ultimately graduated from Hartford High School, with honors, in 1969. After graduating, he went on to study at the University of Connecticut, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree and was a founding member of the UCONN Outing Club.
At 26, he moved to Washington State to continue his education. He attended Evergreen State College, in Olympia, WA, and studied computer science. He worked for the next decade for the US Forest Services as a firefighter with the Baker River Interagency Hotshot Crew out of the Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. He spent years battling forest fires around the country. He fondly remembered this period as the best and proudest time of his life.
Alfred was self-employed for many years as a paralegal with The Papermill in Washington State and Roseburg, OR, with his then wife, Shelley Dudley. He later lived in both Vero Beach, FL, where he worked as a nutritional salesman and Eureka, SD, working in nursing homes and collecting information for the US Census, prior to returning to Florida. Wherever he went, he made friends, always ready and willing to inform people with his interest in and knowledge of alternative medicine and his desire to help out.
Alfred is survived by his siblings, Jahala L. Chrzan, of Leesburg, FL, Paul Chrzan, of Huntington, MA, and Donald Chrzan, of East Hartford, CT. He is also survived by his nieces, Jahala Dufort, of Huntington, MA, and Sara Dufort, of East Hartford, CT. Alfred had countless extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
The family will be holding a private memorial and burial at their convenience. If you would like to honor his legacy, please make a donation to the ALS Association in Alfred Chrzan’s name.
